Safety Operations

Preparing for the Job:

Before starting your job, carefully plan the entire project and consider its requirements.

Machine Safety and Maintenance:

Refer to the SOP for each machine and ensure it is in its default setup with all safety features working properly. Machines should be turned off when cleaning, repairing, or oiling.

Portable Tools and Power Cords:

Prior to using portable tools, check power cords and plugs for damage or fraying. If cords are damaged, report it to a PIT staff member and refrain from using the tool.

Machining Preparation:

Have prints or drawings/sketches of parts with dimensions, hole locations, thread sizes, and other machining information before starting the machining process.

Controlled Use of Compressed Air:

Avoid excessive use of compressed air to blow dirt or chips from machinery to prevent chip scattering.

Compressed Air Guns and Personal Safety:

Never use compressed air guns to clean clothing or hair, and never aim them at another person.

Clean and Organized Work Area:

Keep the floor around machines clean, dry, and free from trip hazards. Close drawers and cabinets after use. Practice knolling, arranging similar objects in parallel or 90-degree angles for better organization.

Responsible Workspace:

Users must clean up their work area after each task and before leaving the PIT. Return all tools to their proper location when finished.

Proper Storage of Oily Rags:

Store oily rags in an approved metal container.
