For nearly 30 years, The Rockefeller University's Women & Science Initiative has supported women in science by highlighting their many significant contributions, underscoring the importance of basic science in addressing women's health challenges, and encouraging more women to make scientific research a philanthropic priority.
The Rockefeller University’s Women & Science Initiative was established in 1997 to help create the conditions necessary for women to participate fully in scientific research at the university. The initiative works to:
- Highlight the crucial role of basic research in addressing scientific challenges related to women’s health, such as ovarian cancer
- Establish Rockefeller as a place where all scientists receive best-in-practice opportunities and that the contributions of all scientists, including women, are showcased
- Encourage more women donors to embrace scientific research as a focus of their philanthropy
Through the Partners in Discovery fundraising program, Women & Science has raised more than $55 million for talented researchers pursuing careers in the sciences at The Rockefeller University. Funding award recipients are chosen through a rigorous, merit-based review of scientific excellence, and each scientist selected receives support drawn from the university’s broad range of fellowship funds.
