Utilization of the Scientific Resource Centers

The Rockefeller University operates a range of centralized resource centers to support research within the University and in collaboration with the Tri-Institutional community. These centers provide high-quality, accessible, and affordable services and products, minimizing redundancy and promoting collaboration.

Key Benefits of Centralization:

  • Lower institutional costs by reducing equipment duplication.
  • Access to specialized services and expertise not readily available commercially.
  • Enhanced collaboration among researchers.

Funding and User Fees: Operating costs are primarily covered by the University’s budget, supplemented by user fees. Fees are designed to recover costs for consumables, service contracts, and labor. Non-Rockefeller users pay approximately twice the internal rate, while for-profit users are charged unsubsidized rates under separate agreements.

Access and Prioritization:

  • Available to Rockefeller researchers, HHMI staff, and other Tri-Institutional community members.
  • Rockefeller researchers have priority, but external not-for-profit institutions may access services based on capacity.

Guidelines for Usage: Researchers are encouraged to use resource center equipment and services instead of duplicating them in individual labs unless high volume or cost considerations justify otherwise. Centers accommodate researcher needs wherever feasible, but the University reserves the right to adjust fees, policies, or center availability as needed.

This centralized approach ensures cost efficiency, high-quality services, and a collaborative research environment for the Rockefeller community and beyond.
