Perspectives & News

Science advances through curiosity, collaboration, and the continual exchange
of ideas. This page highlights articles, interviews, scientific perspectives,
and news describing the work of the Fisher Drug Discovery Resource Center and
its collaborators. Some stories focus on discoveries and technologies, while
others explore the broader philosophy of experimental design, collaboration,
and drug discovery.

Many of these articles are published on external websites, including
Rockefeller University and the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research
Foundation. Together they provide additional insight into the people, ideas,
and collaborations that shape the DDRC.

Scientific Perspectives

Fail Fast, Learn Faster

Drug discovery often begins with a promising scientific idea, but many projects
encounter technical or biological obstacles long before they can become new
therapies. This article discusses how careful experimental design, assay
development, and biophysical characterization help investigators identify
critical challenges early, allowing projects to move forward with greater
confidence—or redirect efforts before significant time and resources are
invested.

Rockefeller’s Tuschl Lab and DDRC Discover New Antiviral Compounds and Targets

A feature describing the collaboration between the Thomas Tuschl Laboratory and
the Fisher DDRC that combined RNA biology, assay development, high-throughput
screening, medicinal chemistry, and cheminformatics to identify inhibitors of
the SARS-CoV-2 NSP14 methyltransferase and discover new antiviral targets.

Technology Guides

Our Technology Guides provide practical introductions to the scientific
principles, applications, strengths, limitations, and experimental
considerations associated with the technologies available within the Fisher
DDRC. Rather than serving as instrument manuals, these guides are intended to
help investigators choose appropriate techniques and design better experiments.

  • NanoTemper Prometheus Panta (Version 1.0)
  • Cytiva Biacore 8K Surface Plasmon Resonance (Version 1.0)
  • Agilent BioTek Synergy Neo2 Hybrid Multimode Reader (In Preparation)

Additional Technology Guides will be added as they become available.

Discovery Guides

Our Discovery Guides are practical resources intended to help investigators
plan experiments, choose appropriate technologies, and navigate common
scientific and technical challenges encountered during drug discovery and basic
biomedical research.

Looking Ahead

The Fisher DDRC website continues to evolve as a scientific resource for our
research community. Future additions will include new Technology Guides,
Discovery Guides, practical laboratory observations, case studies, and
scientific perspectives drawn from our experience supporting collaborative
research programs.

Help Us Improve

These resources are intended to evolve with the needs of the scientific
community. We welcome comments, suggestions, corrections, and ideas that can
help improve the usefulness of our Technology Guides, Discovery Guides, and
other educational resources.
