Many projects begin with a conversation.

If you are considering a drug discovery, screening, assay development,
biophysical, or data analysis project, we encourage you to contact the DDRC early.

An initial technical consultation can help us understand the scientific question,
evaluate possible experimental approaches, and identify what may be needed to move
the project forward. A project does not need to be fully developed before contacting us.

Before We Meet

To make the discussion useful, please come prepared to tell us about:

• The scientific question — What are you trying to learn or test?
• The biological system — What target, pathway, interaction, phenotype, or mechanism are you studying?
• Available reagents — What proteins, constructs, cell lines, nucleic acids, compounds, antibodies, controls, or other materials do you currently have?
• Reagent quality and quantity — How have important reagents been characterized, and approximately how much material is available?
• Existing data — What experiments have already been performed, including results that did not work as expected?
• The decision you need to make — What evidence would allow you to move forward, change direction, or stop?

What Happens Next?

Following the discussion, we may recommend a specific experiment, additional
reagent characterization, assay development, a pilot study, screening,
biophysical measurements, data analysis, or simply additional preparation
before experimental work begins.

Not every consultation leads to a DDRC project. Sometimes identifying what
needs to happen next is itself a useful outcome.
