Richard Kogan, M.D., has based his career on two ancient disciplines that remain central to modern civilization — Medicine and Music. Dr. Kogan is renowned for his live concert-lectures, in which he explores the psychological and medical origins of musical creativity in the great composers, interweaving his verbal analyses with performances of their masterpieces. A master storyteller, Dr. Kogan has given these programs at concert series, music festivals, medical conferences, universities, and scholarly symposia throughout the world, including the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Aspen Ideas Festival, the TEDMED Conference, the BBC in London, and the World Psychiatric Congress in Berlin. His American tours have included performances at concerts of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Symphony Orchestras of Baltimore, Houston, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. Last November he performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the World Doctors Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. In addition to his concert-lecture tours, Dr. Kogan maintains a private psychiatric practice in New York City. He also serves as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Artistic Director of the Music and Medicine Program, and Director of the Human Sexuality Program at Weill Cornell Medical College.
