Hours, Access & Library Policies
The Rita & Frits Markus Library is located in Welch Hall.
Access is limited to:
Rockefeller University (faculty and non-faculty)
- With proper RU I.D., 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
Guest visitors, including Weill Cornell Medical College, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Hospital for Special Surgery (faculty and non-faculty)
- With a valid I.D., Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No reentry is permitted after 5 pm.
The library is staffed Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will not be staffed on the University holidays. The library is not open to the general public.

Library Policies and Guidelines
In order to preserve the historic building and ensure optimal use of our resources by all, we ask our patrons to show consideration to other users and to observe the following basic guidelines while visiting our Library:
- Patrons must use their own ID card to enter the Library. RU ID card holders may not swipe in their guests to enter after hours or on weekends.
- Checking out materials requires a barcode issued by the library. Please contact the library or stop by the circulation desk to receive your barcode. Borrowing privileges for the users from our affiliated libraries vary widely. Please contact the library for your eligibility and instructions.
- No smoking is allowed in the Library. Eating is allowed in a designated area only. Eating food is prohibited in the Main Reading Room on the 2nd floor. Please bring drinks in a container with a cap to minimize spilling.
- Please do not rearrange our furniture, including chairs.
- Please observe common library standards and practices with regard to noise and behavior. The Main Reading Room on the 2nd floor is a quiet area. Please keep your conversation to minimum.
