Bernard Malissen is the head of the team ‘Integrative Biology of T cells and Dendritic cells’ at Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille Luminy (Marseille, France). He pioneered the use of gene transfer approaches to dissect the molecules involved in T cell function and the edition of the mouse genome to tackle the development and function of T cells in their physiological context. To make sense of the formidable complexity of the signal transduction networks involved in T cell activation, his team is presently combining system level approaches and genetic screens designed to further the understanding of T cell function under normal and pathological conditions. His recent interests extended to dendritic cells, a research area where he visualized the in vivo dynamics of the dendritic cells that reside in the skin and disentangled their phenotype and function. He published over 350 papers and belongs to the Thomson Reuters 2016 and 2017 list of Highly Cited Researchers. He has been awarded the Grand Prix INSERM and elected to the French Academy of Sciences (2003). Bernard Malissen is the Founding Director of Center for Immunophenomics (CIPHE), a research institute dedicated to customized preclinical mouse model generation and high-content standardized multiparametric immunophenotyping analysis of the mouse immune system under normal and pathological conditions.
