Ashu, saxophone

Originally from California, Ashu began playing the saxophone at age 10. His recital debut took place at Carnegie Hall and his concerto debut was held at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. Since then, Ashu’s charismatic and emotive style has taken him around the world, attracting younger audiences to classical music with his unique concert saxophone performances. Ashu has taken top honors at major competitions traditionally won by pianists and violinists, such as the prestigious Audience Award at the International Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ashu graduated from Northwestern University, where he received his bachelor's and masters of music degrees.

Performing: Ibert (Concertino da Camera); Rachmaninoff (Andante from Sonata, Op. 19); Villa-Lobos (Fantasia for soprano saxophone and piano); Creston (Sonata, Op. 19 for alto saxophone and piano); Piazzolla (Three tangos, arranged for soprano saxophone and piano); Morricone (Italian Film Suite); Demersseman (Fantaisie sur un Thème Orginial for alto saxophone and piano).
