Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberance and often daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet has won several of chamber music’s top competitions, including the Naumburg Chamber Music Award. In 2009 the quartet received the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance and was named Musical America’s Ensemble of the Year. The group is based in Bloomington, Indiana, and serves as quartet-in-residence and full-time faculty members at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. They have also served as resident performing artists at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago. The quartet has established itself as a widely-praised interpreter of classic string quartet cycles as well as an ardent advocate of contemporary music.
