Nearly a thousand kids and their families attend Rockefeller’s annual science festival

Custom mini-wind turbines were sent spinning, secretive ant queens loomed large under a microscope, and robotic Lego cars zipped under foot. Now in its 11th year, RockEDU’s annual festival for kids in kindergarten through grade eight, drew another excited and energized crowd.

On September 27, nearly a thousand attendees—including students from over a hundred different schools across the city, the tri-state area, and beyond—visited 38 hands-on learning stations that were led by over 230 volunteers from Rockefeller, neighboring and collaborating institutions, and local high schools.

The event was once again free and made possible thanks to the generous support of The Andreas C. Dracopoulos Family Science and Society Initiative, the Bessent-Freeman Family Foundation, the Wasily Family Foundation, and The Steinman Family Foundation. Middle schools in New York City and local non-profit organizations that provide educational opportunities for children were invited as part of the university’s continued community outreach efforts.
