- People with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) as well as families and professionals involved need strong understanding toward desired and sustained healing outcomes. In this session, Dr. Engin Ozertugrul will narrate his personal journey with obsessive-compulsive disorder. The session will include history, public/media perceptions, and major challenges in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder’s (DSM) biologically inspired view of the mind. By the tools of self-search inquiry (SSI) method, the speaker addresses the issue of subjectivity from subject’s relational context to demonstrate DSM’s limitations in the adoption of a reductionist position that undermines the theoretical and clinical accuracy in explaining OCD. This presentation incorporates various videos from media and provides insights into why, despite sufferers’ conscious awareness of their futile thoughts and behaviors, they would continue to engage nonsensical obsessions and compulsions. Attendees will receive a free copy of presenter's book on OCD. No registration. No fees. All Welcome. Just walk In! This is a relaxed session. Bring your lunch.
