Cientifico Latino, Inc. offers mentorship programs and public resources that focus on STEM graduate school recruitment, retention, and career advancement. Through their Graduate School Mentorship Initiative, they help 100 students every year navigate graduate school applications by providing access to mentorship, educational resources, and financial support. From 2019-2024, they have helped 580 students matriculate to graduate programs (Cadena et al., Cell, 2023). They also focus on the retention of first-year graduate students and preparation for non-academic careers, specifically in the consulting sector. Their programming has supported over 1,200 scientists across the U.S. and 30 countries.

Dr. Robert W. Fernandez is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Cientifico Latino, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the higher education pipeline for underserved communities in the sciences. He was born in Lima, Peru. He received his Associates of Arts degree from UCNJ, a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology at York College, CUNY, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University. In recognition of his work, Dr. Fernandez has received awards including being named in “100 inspiring Hispanic/Latinx scientists in America” in Cell Press and a 2024-2025 Obama USA Leader.
