The nearest Social Security office is located at 755 Second Avenue, 3rd Floor (between 40th and 41st Street). Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except on holidays when the office is closed. The telephone number is (212) 599-4710 or 1-(800)-772-1213.

This letter will be provided to you at registration. Bring photocopies with you of your I-94 card and respective visa form. DO NOT leave your passport or any original visa documents at the Social Security office.

Once you have filed your application, your card will be sent to you in 6 to 8 weeks. It is very important to send Immigration and Academic Appointments (Box 80) a photocopy of your card when you receive it.

New appointees will be given a Human Resources Employee Handbook which includes important information on University policies.
