Shelby White and Leon Levy Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior
Brain and behavioral disorders, including drug and alcohol abuse, afflict about 50 million Americans, and psychiatric illness accounts for approximately 20 percent of all hospitalizations in the United States. Real progress in the prevention and treatment of neurological disorders will depend on major breakthroughs in understanding the brain's basic biology. Laboratories in the center exploit the latest technological developments to explore questions about the mind and brain that were virtually out of reach just a few years ago. The center encompasses the work of laboratories studying neural systems, neurogenetics, neural development and neurochemistry. In addition, the center's Leon Levy Presidential Fellowships provide outstanding young investigators with the opportunity to establish independent research programs.
