I am interested in the progression of cancer and its interaction with the immune system, which I study using different high throughput omics techniques and bioinformatics methods. As member of the Simon Lab, I have participated in the profile of non-coding RNAs in FLC tumors, the demonstration that the chimeric protein DNAJB1-PRKACA is enough to originate FLC tumors in engineered mice, the development of PDX and organoid models of FLC, and the identification of novel therapeutic targets for FLC.

I have been doing research for industry and academia since 2009. I master the concepts, algorithms, and biostatistics involved in bioinformatics as user, instructor, and developer. I know and teach programming in Python, R and Bash for regular and parallel computing. I have been part of the course Programming for Life Sciences in Rockefeller University since 2017. Additionally, I have taught bioinformatics in different universities for undergrads and master students.

I have been recognized by different awards, fellowships and grants during my career, both as student and as researcher. My expertise is reflected in my 25 publications in the area, with hundreds of citations. They cover different topics like genomics, transcriptomics, immunoinformatics and biostatistics. My research has been highlighted many times in the news and cited by the most prestigious institutions worldwide, including the Scientific Background document of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

In my free time, I like to conduct independent research for pro-bono mentoring, helping talented undergraduate students from underserved settings. Remarkably, my students have won the best oral presentation awards at the ISCB Student Council Symposium for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021) with different projects.
