Teacher-Scholar Program Details

D4P Teacher-Scholars will form a community of teachers who learn alongside the upcoming D4P: Social Behavior Series while exploring connections between the science of social behavior and their classrooms. This opportunity will strengthen teachers familiarity and connection to scientific literature through engaging model organisms such as ants.

D4P: Social Behavior will explore what social behavior means in non-human animals like flies, nematode worms, and ants, as each of these organisms are capable of adapting their own social behaviors based on the environments that they are in. Webinars will take place on several Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:00 pm, January through March 2022. Teachers who cannot view a webinar live will be able to watch the recording in advance of the next teacher-scholar session.

Teacher-Scholars sessions will be held on Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:30pm, alternating with the D4P episodes, January through March 2022. These will take place in preparation for the first D4P webinar, intermittently between most of the webinars in the series, and for a final session to synthesize key take-aways on the science of social behavior for their classrooms. The bolded sessions below are required synchronous sessions for full attendance; the D4P episodes themselves may be watched either live or asynchronously between the required sessions.

The cohort of D4P: Social Behavior Teacher-Scholars will be confirmed and provided pre-reading materials by Monday Jan. 3rd. Successful completion of the program will earn the Teacher-Scholar 12 hours of CTLE credit and author recognition for any classroom-ready materials developed through the program and published on RockEDU Online. Currently, this program is entirely remote, taking place on Zoom and utilizing online platforms including Google Docs and Jamboard.

Teacher-Scholars interested in developing the nitty-gritty elements of classroom materials will also have the opportunity to work with RockEDU as a paid Teacher-Consultant following completion of the program.

We anticipate D4P Teacher-Scholars will continue to run alongside future D4P series, based on continued interest and constructive feedback.
