Interlibrary Loan - How to Request an Article or Book

Submitting Requests:

Before submitting any request please check the “Primo Library Search” page to make sure the items are not already available.

There are several Document Delivery request options available to Rockefeller University patrons.

  • Send requests via e-mail to librequest
  • Request Form
  • Fax to x8802.
  • In person at the Library, Welch Hall, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Library offers a Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan service to all members of the Rockefeller University research community.  This service allows users to order journal articles and borrow books that are not available at the Rockefeller University Library or its affiliates (MSK and WCMC). Requests may only be made for items that directly support the research or administrative needs of the university. This service is governed by conditions set by the National Interlibrary Loan Code, the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code), network and local agreements, and the policies of individual libraries.

*** To ensure that we respond to legitimate requests from the RU community always use your Rockefeller email address when requesting material.

Delivery Time Frame:

The majority of requests are filled within 24-48 hours. Actual receipt depends on the response time of the lending library, type of material requested, and mode of transmission. Urgent ‘Rush‘ requests may often be filled within hours. To avoid delay, supply as much information about your request as possible.

Cost:

Cost will depend on the charge made to the Rockefeller University Library by the lending library. In most cases there is no charge involved because of RUL’s consortium relationships. When the lending library is not a participating member, charges levied by that library will be passed on to the patron.

Notification:

When a requested item arrives, patrons are notified by e-mail or telephone.

Loan Period, Renewals and Return:

When the original material (e.g., books) is sent in lieu of a photocopy, the loan period is indicated on the white wrapper which is placed on the item, and you will also be informed of the loan period when you pick up the item at the Library, in Welch Hall. The loan period is determined by the lending library and is usually two weeks. Please adhere to the date indicated on the white wrapper. Some libraries renew Interlibrary loans and some will not. All items borrowed through the Interlibrary Loan service must be returned to the Information Services Desk by the date indicated on the white wrapper. Returning materials after the due date will jeopardize The Rockefeller University Library’s borrowing privileges.
