Subject: COVID-19 update

Dear members of the Rockefeller community,

The number of COVID-19 cases on campus has increased significantly over the past few weeks (see link below to download a chart showing the data), rising to a current total of 45 cases over the last two weeks. Sequencing done by the RUStrong team confirms that the recent infections are all from the highly contagious BA.2 variant and several instances of potential on-campus transmission are under investigation.

At the April 4th meeting of the university Research Restart Committee,  the Committee recommended against revising current policies but agreed to watch conditions closely. Given the continuing increase in cases, the Committee will meet again next week to review updates and consider whether policies should be revised.

Although there have not been any additional changes to the campus policies since March 17, we are writing at this time to strongly encourage everyone to resume wearing a face mask at all times when indoors. When eating with others, please make every effort to dine outdoors and to maintain social distance both indoors and outside. Large gatherings are strongly discouraged.

Please note that weekly testing remains mandatory and twice-weekly testing is strongly encouraged. When using the RUStrong testing program, please coordinate with your lab/unit to submit as many samples in a given bag as possible, do not apply any labels to the tubes and complete your sample submission form at the same time that you submit your sample.

Access to campus remains restricted to RU personnel and guests with specific approval to access campus for business purposes.  Requests for campus access for guests should continue to be sent to restart@rockefeller.edu.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and each other,

Tim

Timothy P. O’Connor, Executive Vice President
