Pathogenic bacteria:

Bacteria which cause disease, e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholerae, and Clostridium botulinum. In contrast, commensal bacteria, e.g., Streptococcus gordonii, are naturally occurring, non-pathogenic, host flora.
