Translating novel scientific insights into new approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease is the ultimate goal of biomedical research. Rockefeller’s scientists and clinicians study conditions such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, addiction, psoriasis, hepatitis C, HIV, mental illness, autoimmune disorders and many others. The Rockefeller University Hospital, a unique clinical research facility with 20 inpatient beds and an outpatient clinic, is an integral part of the institution and serves as an ideal setting for conducting clinical studies in a carefully controlled environment.

The university is also home to a number of researchers studying the genetic basis of human disease. Using bioinformatics and other emerging technologies that have provided sufficient scale to study the human genome, and recruiting subjects from New York City’s diverse population, Rockefeller scientists work to identify human disease genes for complex disorders.
