"In Reflection"
On Friday September 14, 2001, The Rockefeller University gathered
to reflect on the September 11 tragedy.
Caspary Event Offers Time to Reflect
Three days after the terrorist attack on the
World Trade Center, President Levine invited all Rockefeller University
faculty, students and staff to attend a special program entitled
"In Reflection."
"We felt it was important to give the Rockefeller
community an opportunity to reflect upon the tragic events of this
past week" says Levine about the Fri., Sept. 14, special program,
attended by hundreds of students, faculty and staff who gathered
in Caspary Auditorium to seek solace in each others company
and in music.
Levine spoke briefly about the enormous efforts
Rockefeller people had made to aid each other and the city during
a week of tragedy. He then turned the stage over to Professor Seth
Darst, who performed Ravel and Schubert at the piano.
Levine closed by reading a Tennyson poem that
a graduate student had sent him, noting that she had found it comforting
during the tragedy. Following "In Reflection" the first of the 2001-2002
Tri-institutional Noon Recitals, featuring the Claremont Trio, was
dedicated to the families who suffered during the recent tragedy.
