Ways to Help
The Offices of Human Resources and Communications
and Public Affairs have joined forces to initiate a coordinated
Rockefeller University outreach to the people of New York City who
have been injured or who have lost loved ones or their homes in
the September 11 tragedy. These are the ways you can help:
Educational Scholarship
Fund
Created by donations from university scientists, students and staff, a
scholarship fund will be established to benefit children of local
firefighters, police officers and emergency medical service staff who
lost their lives in the World Trade Center tragedy. Various
administrative arms of the university are now working out the details of
this fund.
The university will match your contribution to the fund.
If you wish to donate, please write your check to Rockefeller
University, with a note on the memo line that the contribution is for
the "Sept. 11th fund". Please mail the check to John Harrigan, VP
Finance, box 250 (interoffice). Your contribution will be acknowledged.
As soon as we have more information about this educational fund, we'll
communicate it to you.
Year-round Blood Drives
The World Trade Center tragedy elicited an unprecedented
response from people who wanted to donate blood. However, more blood
was collected than was actually needed. The Rockefeller University
recognizes that blood shortages occur throughout the year, and we
are committed to holding regular blood drives to meet this need.
You will receive information soon about the next scheduled blood
drive.
Child and Family Center
Coin Drive
The university's Child and Family Center began
a coin drive on September 21. The money collected will be donated
to the New York City Fire Department, specifically to our local
firehouse on East 67th Street, Engine Company 39/Ladder
Company 16. Two firefighters from their company died in the World
Trade Center rescues, leaving dependents. In past years, children
from the Child and Family Center have visited this local fire station,
where they have been welcomed by the firefighters.
Collection jars are located at the Founder's
Hall Security desk, the Weiss Cafe, the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller
Dining Room, Sophie Fricke Hall, and the Child and Family Center
office in Graduate Students Residence.
