Welcome to the 40th Anniversary Season of the Peggy Rockefeller ConcertsThe Rockefeller University is pleased to announce its 1998-1999 Peggy Rockefeller Concerts, a subscription series of outstanding musical performances by internationally acclaimed artists. The concerts will be held at 8:00 P.M. in the University's Caspary Auditorium, 66th Street and York Avenue. The series was founded in 1958 by Professor Theodore Shedlovsky and renamed in 1996 in memory of Peggy Rockefeller, wife of long-time chairman of the University's board of trustees David Rockefeller and an unstinting supporter of the University and especially of the concerts that now bear her name. This year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first concert in Caspary Auditorium, as well as the 100th anniversary of the birth of Professor Shedlovsky. These concerts provide a unique opportunity to hear world-renowned artists at a low cost, made possible by special arrangement with the performers, gifts in support of the series, and the sponsorship of the University. The Rockefeller University was founded in 1901 by John D. Rockefeller as the first U.S. biomedical research center. A world leader in science and education, it has been at the forefront of many of the major scientific discoveries of the 20th century. Nineteen Nobel laureates have been associated with the university, four of whom are currently on campus.
