Our laboratory combines NMR spectroscopy, biochemistry, cell biology and structural biology to investigate the control of cellular development and its relation to human disease. We presently focus on three areas in biology: Gene Activation, Cancer Biology and Programmed Cell Death. In each of these areas, we are looking to understand how specific molecules interact to initiate a set of biochemical events. To achieve this end, structural biology is combined with other biophysical and biochemical techniques to determine the mechanisms of communication in a particular pathway of interest. By simultaneous analysis of normal and disease-causing forms of a molecule, we begin to understand the origins of human disease.
