Dr. Marcotrigiano received his B.A. in chemistry from the Rutgers College in May 1995. He pursued graduate studies at The Rockefeller University in the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics under the supervision of Dr. Stephen K. Burley. His Ph.D. research thesis focused on functional and structural studies of several eukaryotic translation initiation factors involved in the decoding cellular and viral mRNAs. In January 2001, he joined the Rice laboratory, where he began investigations into the mechanism of HCV and alphavirus replication. These studies have centered on the following two issues: (i) Elucidation of the function and structure of alphavirus NSP3 and HCV NS5A; (ii) The isolation and characterization of the protein components necessary to replicate the RNA genome in vitro. In July 2002, he became a Merck Fellow of the Life Sciences Research Foundation.
