The International Research Foundation for Children's Eye Care, Inc. has been created to promote international collaboration in pediatric ophthalmology research. The Foundation now announces the Princess Marianne Bernadotte Scholarship for post-doctoral studies in pediatric ophthalmology for one year, commencing January 1, 1998. Eligible for the scholarship are researchers in all parts of the world, but the research should be conducted in a department of pediatric ophthalmology at a Swedish institution. The scholarship amounts are for $27,000 US and $3,000 US for travel. If additional funds are needed, they must be supplied by the department of the applicant or from other sources. The deadline for the application is September 1, 1997.

The application should include

• curriculum vitae (CV),
• short description of previous research experience,
• research proposal for the fellowship,
• name of the advisor and the institution in Sweden,
• letter of acceptance from the institution in Sweden,
• two letters of support from previous advisors or instructors, and
• a letter from the head of the home institution stating that a position will be available when the applicant returns from one year of research training in Sweden.

The application, including CV, descriptions of research experience and the research program, should not exceed 3 pages. The application will be reviewed by a committee of Swedish scientists in the field, and if necessary, by a consultation of outside advisors.
