HTS Resource Center Guidelines
The HTS Resource Center, a core facility of The Rockefeller University, fosters an environment of creativity, open access, flexibility and safety and is accessible to researchers from non-profit organizations in keeping with the mission of "Science for the Benefit of Humanity." Access for non-Rockefeller researchers may be limited due to the Center's overall capacity.
All investigators are encouraged to consult with the Director of the HTSRC well in advance of starting an HTS project. Many early decisions regarding protein expression systems, affinity tagging technologies and fluorescent labeling approaches hinge upon the future screening strategy.
We can actively contribute to grant applications, patents or publications. Use of the HTSRC should generally be referenced as fee-for-service on grant applications. Requests for collaborative or co-investigator status should be directed to the Director of the HTSRC. Patent inventorship is governed by federal law. The University policy on intellectual property is available on line. Co-authorship on publications for Resource Center staff may be considered appropriate when the staff have provided one or more of the following:
- Significant intellectual contribution to the design of the published experiments;
- Substantial practical contribution to the generation, analysis and/or interpretation of experimental data.
Resource Center staff members who have made an intellectual or technical contribution, but of a limited nature and not justifying authorship as defined above, should be given an appropriate acknowledgement.
Before using the facility, users and the appropriate principal investigator must read these guidelines, register on the HTSRC website and send an email to the Director with the following information:
- At least two relevant journal articles on the topic.
- A short synopsis of the rationale for the project and the assay strategy.
- Genbank numbers of specific genes targeted, if any, or ATCC cell line information.
Open access to the HTSRC is available only to approved individuals. Approval is based, in part, on completion of appropriate training in the use of the equipment. A service agreement will also need to be signed by non-Rockefeller University users.
To schedule time on the HTS instruments, use the HTSRC website online booking tool.
Before beginning a primary screening, an HTS protocol must be provided to and approved by the Director of the HTSRC. Consultation with the Director is required for the following steps:
- Whether an assay is ready for primary screening
- What the hit-picking list should contain
- Design of concentration response experiments
- Final discussion, conclusions on HTS results
- Secondary assays required
