Howard Hughes Medical Institute

In 1986, The Rockefeller University began its collaboration with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), which conducts molecular biomedical research on campus and provides both financial support and scientific interaction. HHMI supports the research of Rockefeller faculty who are appointed HHMI investigators. In addition to full salary support, HHMI provides funds for supplies, equipment and laboratory personnel, including postdoctoral associates, technicians and administrative assistants. HHMI investigators maintain their faculty appointments at the university and pursue their research in HHMI laboratories on campus. There are currently 12 investigators at Rockefeller, many of whom are active in the education of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
