How Well Do You Really Eat?

The key to healthy eating is balance, variety and moderation. By eating a wide variety of foods you have the best chance of meeting your nitritional needs.

Tips For a Healthier You

1. Eat a variety of nutrient rich foods. More than 40 different nutrients are recommended for good health. A well-balanced daily food selection could include whole grain products: rice, pasta, whole-grain breads; fruits, vegetables; dairy products; meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods such as beans and tofu.

2. Eat 4-6 small meals throughout the day instead of 3 large meals. If you eat smaller meals, you will be less hungry during the day, will be able to balance your portions, digest your food more efficiently, and will helkp prevents binge eating.

3. Don't eat late at night. It is recommended that food consumption cease three hours prior to going to bed. This will help prevents bad sleeping patterns, poor digestion, weight gain and heart burn.

4. Watch your fat and calorie intake. Just because a food is low in fat does not mean it's low in calories. In order to maintain a healthy weight, you need to balance the calories you consume with calories you use in physical activity. The more active you are, the more calories you can consume to maintain this balance.

5. Exercise regularly. Staying fit helps you maintain a healthy weight and look your best. If you already exercise regularly, don't stop. If you do not exercise, you can become more active by just moving more (walking instead of taking the bus, climbing stairs instead of using the elevator). It's not what you choose as an activity but that you do it on a regular basis.

6. Drink at least a pint of water daily.
