Green Tip of the Month: Food Services
When dining in...
When eating in Weiss Café, opt for china plates, metal flatware and glass cups instead of plastic. (For salad bar purchases, the weight of the plate is removed at checkout.) Limit food waste by purchasing only what you’re hungry for, and try going tray-less to avoid adding unnecessary items to your meal and to cut back on energy used in dishwashing.
When carrying out..
For items that don’t need to be weighed, bring your own container — a 12 oz. or 16 oz. bowl for soup or a plate for sandwiches in the CRC and Weiss cafés, a bottle for soda in Weiss Café. You can also bring a reusable bag to carry your purchases back to your office or lab. Rockefeller reusable bags are available for purchase at the T-shirt shop.
It pays to be green
In the Weiss and CRC cafés, bring your own mug for coffee and receive a 10 percent discount at either location. Make sure you know how many ounces your mug holds so that the cashier can tally the correct price and discount.
Did You Know?
Each year, Food Services spends more than $8,000 on new china and flatware to replace items that have been lost or stolen. Be sure to return your dishes to the café so that everyone has a chance to use china instead of plastic.
