Aspects of the Behavior of the Sifaka Propithecus verreauxi verreauxi
Thomas Struhsaker, New York Zoological Society and The Rockefeller University, and Alison Richard, Queens Elizabeth College, London University.

The sifaka, one of the Malagasy lemurs, were filmed in the arid forest of southern Madagascar. The film shows locomotion, grooming, dominance, marking behavior, and infant-parent relationships, and is of interest to behaviorists, particularly primatologists.

Ecology and Behavior of the Pata Monkey Erythrocebus patas
J. Stephen Gartlan, Primate Ecology Unit, University of Wisconsin, and The Rockefeller University.

The patas monkey is predominately terrestrial, adapted for life in the harsh savanna that extends around the southern periphery of the Sahara. The social and physical adaptations of the patas permit them to exploit the savannas successfully, but climate catastrophes can cause numerous deaths and reduction of the breeding population.

Behavior and Ecology of vervet Monkeys Cercopithecus aethiops
Thomas Struhsaker, New York Zoological Society and The Rockefeller University

Filmed in Kenya’s Masai-Amboseli Game Reserve, this field study describes the basic aspects of the behavior and ecology of free-ranging vervet monkeys. It is useful for students studying animal behavior and for those specifically interested in primate behavior.

Hugo Van Lawick: photography; Peter Marler, New York Zoological Society and The Rockefeller University: research and sound recording; Jane Van Lawick-Goodall, Cambridge University and The National Geographical Society: research.

Sound signals used by the chimpanzees of the Gombe National Park in Tanzania have been recorded in synchrony with the filming of other social activities. This film can serve as an introduction for graduate students and researchers.

Phagocytosis and Degranulation
James G. Hirsch, The Rockefeller University

This film embraces studies on neutrophil and eosinophil leukocytes. As two examples, chicken leukocytes engulf Bacillus megaterium and horse eosinophils engulf human erythrocytes. The degranulating and cytotoxic effects of streptolysin are shown, as are similar effects of antiserum on granules. Human, horse, and chicken leukocytes are examined.

Pinocytosis and Granular Formation in Macrophages
Zanvil A. Cohn and James G. Hirsch, The Rockefeller University

In this study of macrophage pseudopods, pinocytic vesicles are seen as clear droplets of various sizes. Macrophages are cultured in vitro. Pinocytic activity leads to the formation of large, clear vesicles in the perinuclear area. Macrophage shows transformation of a clear vesicle into a dense granule.
